It’s the time of year when the every craft-beer fanatic is talking about pumpkin beers and every beer blog, column, and magazine if picking their top ten. So, it should come as no surprise that the Phoenix New Times has issued its recommendations. In going down the list, I agree with some of their choices and rankings, and decidedly disagree with others. Notably missing is Cigar City’s excellent entry into the style, Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale (even though the that is the title of the article). But, that could be because Cigar City does not distribute in Arizona. Still, in my opinion, it is a notable omission. The reviewer’s ranking of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale as tenth and Southern Tier’s Pumking seem out of whack as well. Both beers deserve better rankings. But, again, that’s just my opinion.
