Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP candidate for the presidential election this fall, will be visiting our fair river city by the sea for a campaign fundraiser at Epping Forest Yacht Club. But, in a bit of cross-over news, he will make a stop at River City Brewing Company on the south bank before the fundraiser to mingle with his north Florida supporters.
River City Brewing Company may at first blush appear an odd choice for Romney, a Mormon to visit. In a November interview he told People Magazine that he did not much care for beer. Indeed he has only had one in his entire life.
“Never had drinks or tobacco. It’s a religious thing,” he said. “I tasted a beer and tried a cigarette once, as a wayward teenager, and never did it again.”
It can only be assumed then that the stop at River City is because of the spectacular view the restaurant has of the Main Street Bridge, St, John’s River, and Jacksonville skyline. Toss in the fact that Friendship Fountain makes a great backdrop too and you have a truly remarkable location for some great looking campaign video.
According to the Florida Times-Union, the River City Brewing Company event starts at 2:35 p.m., with doors opening at 1 p.m.
