Ponte Vedra eatery to feature craft beer

image001Food and craft beer go together like, well like food and craft beer. It seems like more an more new restaurants are catching on to that simple fact. With the soon-to-open Supper Food & Brew downtown, Kitchen on San Marco and now Trasca & Co. Eatery in Ponte Vedra, craft beer is proving to be a major force in the new restaurant scene.

Speaking of Trasca & Co. Eatery, check out the press release below to learn more about the restaurant’s signature and unique sandwich, the Panino.

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – April 8, 2015Trasca & Co Eatery, located in the Sawgrass Village Shopping Center, will open for business on April 13th, and host a grand opening celebration from 1pm – 5pm on April 26th.

Trasca & Co Eatery is a one-of-a-kind, locally-owned, vintage, neighborhood eatery.  The Eatery, which is owned and operated by Ponte Vedra residents Sara and Travis Trembath, will specialize in an Italian-inspired sandwich called the Panino.  The Panino starts with a secret family dough recipe, which is made fresh daily.  The dough is rolled flat, delicious meats and cheeses are added, before it is sent through an oven for 5 minutes at 495 degrees.  It is then topped with vegetables and homemade sauces, before being eaten like a rolled-up sandwich.  The Panino traces its roots back to the year 1974, when this delicious concoction was invented by Sara’s grandmother Everetta Frasca in Colorado Springs.

The Eatery focuses on using the most flavorful ingredients to deliver a delicious hand-crafted sandwich, in an eclectic, fast-casual setting.

In addition to 23 varieties of the Panino, Trasca & Co Eatery will also serve pizza, craft beers on tap, Zingerman’s coffee, and Puck’s craft sodas.

“We believe people from the Beaches community are hungry for something different,” said Trasca & Co owner Sara Trembath. “People want amazing food and great service, without having to get all dressed up, or wait for a special occasion.  The Eatery will give them that in a fun, quirky environment.”

Trasca & Co Eatery will be open daily for lunch and dinner, and will also serve coffee and light breakfast items through a walk-up window.  Daily hours: 7am-10pm.

A grand opening celebration is planned for April 26th from 1 to 5 pm, and will include live music, a custom t-shirt bar, activities for kids, and of course, tons of delicious samples!

World of Beer to open Jax beach pub Super Bowl Sunday

World-of-Beer-logoAs does many such ventures, World of Beer began as a dream between two good friends enjoying several craft beers. In 2007,  Scott Zepp and Matt LaFon started the company as a beer retail store, but quickly realized that their true calling was to open a tavern that specialized in great craft beer. World of Beer (WOB) was born. In short order, the new beer bar in the Westchase area of Tampa, Fla. became a beer destination boasting 500 local and international beers.

This week the company will open its 72nd location in Jacksonville Beach on Super Bowl Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Celebrating the popularity of craft beer and its culture, WOB rotates taps daily so guests will discover something new and unique on every visit. Signature craft spirit cocktails, ciders and wine along with nonalcoholic beverages are also available. WOB pairs its craft brews with the franchise’s signature “Tavern Fare” menu featuring a variety of comfort foods and traditional bar offerings with a contemporary spin, such as Giant Bavarian Pretzels, a Guinness “Brat” Slider and the Chimay Burger. The tavern also will offer a new BEERunch on Sundays with craft-inspired breakfast items such as: Belgian Beer Waffles, Blueberry Wheat French Toast, Breakfast Tacos and Chicken & Waffle Sandwiches.

as is the norm at most of the company’s taverns, fifty beers will be featured on rotating taps along with more than 500 canned and bottled brews from around the world. The Jax beaches location will also feature an infusion tower that allows guest to infuse flavors into their beer choices such as fruit or even additional hops. In addition, guests at WOB Jax Beach can expect specialty cask beers served via an authentic beer engine.

WOB Jacksonville Beach is located at 311 3rd Street North with normal operating hours of 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday and 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Riverside Craft Beer Festival seeks to raise funds for track at school

riversidebeerfestCraft beer lovers are known to be a charitable as well as a convivial bunch. It seems that there is always an event popping up to help the many deserving groups around town and across the country. And, on Saturday, February 22 the Riverside Rotary Club is holding the Riverside Craft Beer Festival at the Riverside Arts Market site under the Fuller Warren Bridge to help one of those worthy causes. This time the proceeds of the festival will go to fund a running/walking track at Stockton Elementary School to help promote exercise both at the school and for the neighborhood.

More than 60 craft beers will be available at the festival including beers from all of Jacksonville’s local breweries. In addition to local brews, thirsty visitors can expect to find beers from throughout Florida and the rest of the country. Like the recent Local Only Craft Beer Festival that was held at the Chamber of Commerce building in downtown Jacksonville, this festival will not have an admission fee and guests must purchase tickets to exchange for beers. Each ticket costs $2 and entitles festival-goers to a 7-ounce pour of craft beer.

Along with the wealth of craft beer to be enjoyed, the organizers have arranged for a number of food truck associated with the Jax Truckies to be at the festival. Hungry attendees can chow down with food from Grannie’s Chicken, Funkadelic Food Truck, Taste Buds Express, Chew Chew Food Truck, Blue Pacific Grill & Taco Bar, Chunky Tomato and Fusion Food Truck.

Entertainment for the festival comes from local bands Cougar’s Barrel and Grandpa’s Cough Medicine.

For those who would like a richer experience, VIP tickets are available. VIP guests can enjoy a tented VIP Only area, all-you-can-eat lunch catered by Mojo’s 4, access to special one-off craft beers that are not available to other attendees, a special keepsake mug and four beer tasting tickets. VIP tickets can be purchased by following the link below to the EventBrite site.

The festival takes place from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. For more details, go to the event’s Facebook page.

Jacksonville bubbling over with great places to eat while enjoying craft beer

When you are looking for the best place to grab a bite along with a pint of freshly-made craft beer you do not need to look much further than the hundreds of brew and gastro pubs that have popped up around the country. Matching great beer to food is quickly becoming as popular as matching food with fine wines. So much so that there are several programs that seek to certify beer servers in much the same way wine servers can be certified as a sommelier.

Here in Jacksonville, Fla. weary travelers staying downtown can catch a quick cab ride to the King Street Beer District to dine at Kickbacks Gastropub and its soon-to-open companion establishment Goozlepipes & Guttyworks where they will find over 200 draft beer choices. Also in the area are restaurants with estensive beer offerings like The Blind Fig, European Street Café, Lola’s Burrito Joint, Carmine’s Pie House or Pele’s Wood Fire. For those with a smaller appetite but a thirst for craft beer, there is the soon to be open Silver Cow that will feature an ever-changing menu of small bites made fresh from locally sourced ingredients.

Further away from downtown are brew pub restaurants like Seven Bridges and World of Beer at Tinseltown on Southside Boulevard. Seven Bridges, part of the Gordon Biersch restaurant chain, brews its own beers on site and serves them paired with a full menu of steaks, seafood, and poultry. At World of Beer find 50 taps of craft beer and over 500 bottled beers along with a menu of flat breads pizzas, sandwiches and other pub fare. At the beaches one of the areas oldest brew pubs, Ragtime – now part of the Gordon Biersch company – serves freshly brewed beers along with Irish-inspired dishes. A block or so down the street from Ragtime is Poe’s a restaurant themed after Edgar Allan Poe that serves an array of unique burgers along with a large selection of quality craft beers.

Another idea for craft beer and food might be to swing by one of the several local brewery tap rooms that wither offer food or host food trucks for hungry patrons. Aardwolf Brewing Company in the San Marco area near downtown often has a food truck outside providing tasty dishes that beer-lovers can carry inside to enjoy with a cold pint. And Bold City Brewing Company has an in-house caterer called Jolly Mon that provides burgers, wings and other tasty foods fresh from its grill in the brewery. In Orange Park, Pinglehead Brewing Company exists inside the same storefront as Brewer’s Pizza and therefore benefits from its ability to provide hot, fresh pizza as well as cold beer. At the beaches Engine 15 Brewing Company serves up pub grub along with freshly-brewed beers to throngs of thirsty beach-goers and local alike.

But, even if a brewery does not offer on-premises food, all allow food to be brought in. At the Intuition Ales Works tap room in the Beer District, guests are encouraged to bring their own food or to order from the list of restaurants that deliver. The tap room staff maintains several menus behind the counter for perusal or can certainly make a suggestion. Similarly, the staff of Mile Marker Brewing Company in St. Augustine is pleased to allow outside food into the tap room.

Given the wide range of establishments available for the beer-lover to both dine and enjoy craft beer, there is no reason not to indulge. And, as craft beer expands in popularity, more and more venues will be added to the fray. For hungry craft beer-lovers, the times are indeed tasty.
